Books, Broomsticks and Butterbeer Oh My! ((Jim))

Hermione was excited for the day ahead of her. It was finally time that she could bring Jim to Diagon Alley with her, so he could see a part of the Wizarding world. It had taken some time, since she had needed to talk to Minerva McGonagall and Arthur Weasley, and sign off a few scrolls to bring a Muggle to Diagon Alley. But Hermione had followed the letter of the Wizarding laws in these regards, so there was no worries on her end.

She had decided to open the PINpoint portal in her own home, a small cottage located in Wiltshire. After all, it was best that a portal wasn't open in Diagon Alley, where any wizard or witch could discover it, and try to gain access to the Nexus themselves.

Hermione send out a quick message to Jim, hoping that he was available.

"The Muggles that come here are usually too awed by the Wizarding world to notice the different feeling. And most Witches and Wizards are too wrapped up in their own lives to notice it either."

He shakes his head a little in good-natured disbelief. "I don't know whether to blame the Nexus or the Federation, but whatever's the case, I'm glad this hasn't gotten too weird or routine for me yet."

Hermione pays for their tea, and takes his arm with a smile. "Be grateful that life is still giving you adventures that open up new opportunities for you."

"I am, believe me. I had a... rude awakening about my own mortality not that long ago. That old cliche about looking at things different, finding value in the little stuff... it's all true." It isn't even the first time, but thirteen-year-old Jimmy was in no mood to put any deep thought into the matter, too wrapped up in his anger and bitterness.

Jim escorts her out of the tea shop, a part of him reluctant to leave. "Thanks for all this."

"You are more than welcome. You are always welcome to come back and visit." Hermione reassures him. "Besides, we do have a standing invitation to the Burrow that Molly would be very upset, if we didn't honor it sometime."

Sometimes, the more paranoid part of Jim wonders if people offer to feed him so often because they can somehow tell he's got food issues, but the more rational part of him knows that it's a totally normal human bonding ritual. Either way, he's not sure he's even capable of turning down such an offer. Besides, he's always eager to try new things, and experience someone else's cooking. "I'd be down for that anytime."

Hermione heads back to where the car is parked. It is a nice enough walk and the evening is just about to set. And it has been a full day of shopping and exploring.

"Once we get back to my place, I can cancel that spell off your phaser."

"Would you like to keep the one on your backpack?"

"Is that allowed?" He's fairly certain it is, given that he's going to be walking off with some kind of enchanted quill and a training wand, but better to make sure. "I can see it coming in handy every now and then."

"I have you listed as a Consultant with one of my projects to improve the Muggle Division of the Ministry of Magic. You are allowed certain knowledge and magical items, to allow a proper understanding between the two worlds."

"After all, you are leaving my world with two other magical items. What is a third?"

"Consultant, huh?" Jim says with a grin. "Works for me. I'll add it to my résumé."

"Officially, on paper, that does make me your boss. Captain." Hermione laughs.

[boldygoing]

"Sorry, that doesn't make you an admiral," Jim responds, teasing.

"Why is it that I get the feeling that if I was an admiral, I would not get to see this fun side of you?" Hermione smiles. "I rather like the friendship we have."

Jim's smile dims very slightly. He did once have a friendship with an admiral, though there was still that distance of rank and age between them. But he doesn't want to think about that right now. "I do too. I had a good time today."

"We will have to do it again sometime." Hermione takes the scenic route again, taking her time to drive back to her cottage.

[boldygoing]

"I'd like that," Jim agrees. "Although I think we'd better plan to have dinner with the Weasleys first. Molly seems like the type of woman to take it personally if we didn't."

"You are not kidding there."

"Let me know what date works for you, an I will let them know we are coming." Hermione smiles. "And they are fine with being notified an hour beforehand."

[boldygoing]

"Sounds like a plan. Let's aim for two weeks from now; I'll let you know for sure as we get closer." He's hesitant to plan events too far out, though she already knows why. Things can change in a moment, when you're in Starfleet.

"Sounds fair." They make it back to her cottage. Hermione takes him inside, where she can unpack all the items that they bought out of her pouch. At the sound of the Kneazle food being set out on the counter, Crookshanks shows up immediately.

"I am glad you were able to spend the day with me, Jim."

"Me too. Thanks again for inviting me." He smiles at her, and of course he has to greet Crookshanks with some pets. "I've been meaning to ask you about paying you back for what you've spent on me today."

Crookshanks will accept the pets. Maybe he can con... convince this human to feed him before the proper feeding time.

"Paying me back?" Hermione looked up. "I wasn't keeping track of anything Jim. I don't expect you to owe me anything."

Jim shrugs a little. "Doesn't have to be money. You've given me a lot and I want to return the favor. I could get you books or something."

"I would love the opportunity to explore your world, if there is an opportunity. To have some new knowledge introduced into my life."

[boldygoing]

More visitors... people sure are curious about Jim's Earth. Not that that's a bad thing. "I'll see if I can arrange something."

Hermione would be curious about anyone's Earth. About new experiences. New knowledge that might be waiting for her to discover.

"Set down your phaser please." She points to the counter.
